What to Ask an Architect Before You Start

The best time to avoid a problem is before it is drawn. A short, honest conversation with your architect at the start sets expectations on scope, fees, timeline and who does what.

Ask what is included in the fee (concept, drawings, approvals, site visits), how changes are handled, and how often you will see progress. Ask who your day-to-day contact will be.

Finally, ask to see a similar completed project and speak to that client. A studio that welcomes the question is usually one you can trust with your home.
